The spicy smells of pine cones, an evergreen Christmas tree in the corner, dripping with ornaments and wrapped in shiny tinsel, warm drinks by the fire, seasoned with cinnamon and honey, hanging stockings on the mantelpiece with childlike hopes of a visit by Saint Nicholas, but only if you've been very, very good all year ~ such delicious times and seasons!
This lovely vintage Christmas stocking depicts Christmas in the northern hemisphere around the 18th/19th Centuries, when Christmas was Christmas, and it was the one time in the year when everyone gathered to enjoy a family dinner on Christmas Eve, with luxuries like roast duck with vegetables, cheery bonbons, a good ale, followed by a delicious plum pudding topped with brandy sauce.
The sweet young lady featured on this stocking, is all rugged up in her finery, with fur-coat and muff, putting the finishing touches to her Christmas shopping ~ a lace handkerchief for Mama, a silk one for Papa, some oranges to put at the bottom of the stockings, and perhaps a book for her little sister. What a joyouse expedition this is!
Embroider her beautiful outfit, her holly basket with oranges, and the Christmas wreath for the front door. Crazy patch embroidery embellishes the tonal creamy white fabrics, some of which are textured for extra interest.
As a bonus, you can make two stockings, if you decide to back them with plain fabric, and make the embroidered sides the fronts of the stockings.
The stocking measures 39.5cm x 21.5cm (15 1/2" x 8 1/2") top to bottom, Width at top: 16.5cm (6 1/2")
Threads & Embellishments and extra $16. Please note in the Comments Column if you would like us to add these to your order.
