"M'Lady's Dressing Room". The theme is Edwardian, with all the elegance and charm of that graceful period in history. "Downton Abbey" was in my thoughts, as I sketched and planned. We added photos as the design progressed, and now, finally, it is available as a Block of the Month.
The quilt features eight blocks to embroider, and one pre-printed block for you to embellish, as little or as much as you wish. The embroidery is enhanced with water-colour pencil painting, so if you've never tried this technique, why not give it a go? it's quite simple, once you've understood the principles and have done a little practice.
The embroidery is relatively simple in this design. The combinations of stitches, thread colours, numbers of strands, and the way the parts come together as a whole, tend to make it look more complicated than it really is.
The pattern gives detailed instructions of the embroidery and pencil-painting, and includes full size embroidery diagrams, as well as transfers. It's as though we are holding your hand as you make this quilt, and we welcome your comments and queries along the way, espcially if you have any difficulties where we can help.
The Block of the Month programme runs for 14 months. The price includes pattern, fabric and postage (within Australia and New Zealand). The price for other overseas countries is $56 per month, and includes all the above as well. We intend to start in September.
As an extra, you can purchase, as a one-off cost, a threads pack for $89. This will give you all the threads you need to complete the quilt. Should you need any more, you can purchase these as extras as you go along. Please nominate in the Comments Column when you place your order, if you would like us to include the threads pack.
Derwent water-colour pencils (tin of 24 pencils) are available as an extra, and are priced at $49. If you are ordering from overseas, we suggest that you purchase these locally if you can, because of the postage charges.
We also have on offer, a beautiful embroidery stabilizer ~ 100% cotton Vlieseline G700. The price, as an extra, for this pack is $33 (1.8m).
If you are relatively new to embroidery, we suggest you purchase a good embroidery book, such as Country Bumpkin's A - Z of Embroidery stitches. We have these for sale at $29 if you wish to add this to your order. Please mention all of your extras in the Comments Columns when you order.
We have a choice of two colour palettes in this lovely design ~ Purple/aubergine/charcoal, as pictured here, OR Black/Tan/Ivory, as pictured in the next category below this one.
This design is available as a Block of the Month as well as a complete kit and a full pattern set. The kit includes all the fabrics required to make the quilt top as well as the pattern. The pattern set consists of 14 full colour patterns, each with detailed instructions, embroidery diagrams, and transfers as needed. It also includes the pre-printed panel of the centre block, "Lady Cora".
